Churchill Security is proud to congratulate our very own Emily, Luke and Stephen on passing their mental health first aid course.

Designed to train managers and employees how to identify, understand and help someone experiencing mental health issues, the MHFA England course took place online over two days, covering a range of subjects surrounding mental health and de-stigmatisation in the workplace.

2020 has been a difficult year for us all. The COVID-19 pandemic and national and regional lockdowns have increased loneliness and stress across the country. At Churchill Security, we recognise that COVID-19 has presented significant challenges for all our employees, whether they’ve been working from home or on the ground. While we’ve been offering support to our colleagues throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we understand that long-term and sustained investment in the mental wellbeing of our employees is of paramount importance.

According to Mental Health First Aid England, 1 in 4 people are affected by mental health issues each year- a number which COVID-19 has only exacerbated. For businesses, taking an interest in employee mental health can only benefit the company and individuals. Across the UK, mental illness is responsible for nearly 72 million lost workdays, costing businesses approximately £34.9 billion each year in sick days, absences and reduced productivity.

By investing in employee mental health and fostering a culture of de-stigmatisation through education, we hope to create a happier and healthier workforce, one that recognises our employees as individuals and supports them as they develop and grow as both employees and people. With Emily, Luke and Stephen now qualified mental health first aiders, we hope to continue supporting our colleagues’ mental health long after COVID-19 has passed. This, combined with other initiatives, is all part of our People First virtue; prioritising people first across all aspects of our business from colleagues through to customers.
