In the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire, one thing everyone can agree on is that something like this must never be allowed to happen again. Tower blocks up and down the country are currently being inspected to assess whether they are safe for habitation, and councils in England, Scotland and Wales are reviewing their tower block safety standards.

But big changes don’t happen overnight. And deciding how to make tower blocks safer will take time, energy and possibly even new legislation. In the meantime, there are other things councils and private companies can do to make tower blocks safer. One of these is deploying fire watch security staff.

Having professional fire watch security staff on site can help in the following ways.

Regular Patrols (Rapid Response and Emergency Service Liaison)

Fire watch security staff will undertake regular patrols of your premises so that, if a fire begins, there’s more chance that it will be spotted quickly and that all necessary actions can be taken in the shortest possible time. In the event of a fire, security staff will raise the alarm and liaise with emergency services, as well as personally alert anyone living in the immediate vicinity. Security patrols will cover every inch of your property, and can be complemented with CCTV surveillance and 24//7 monitoring.

Hazard Elimination and Compliance

Many fires are avoidable. By eliminating hazards in your premises, those living in the property will remain as safe as possible. Simple things, such as keeping corridors clutter-free, ensuring fire-doors are kept shut and storing combustible and flammable liquids correctly, can make a huge difference. Fire watch security officers will make sure that any potential hazards are removed and that your building remains compliant.

Peace of Mind

Following recent events, it’s understandable that some of those living in tower blocks are experiencing a certain amount of anxiety around their safety. This is compounded by the fact that, after testing, 75 tower blocks have so far failed fire safety tests. For those living in these buildings, then, having a visible security presence on site to undertake additional activities relating to fire prevention may help put their minds at rest. After all, nobody should feel unsafe in their home.
