It’s all good and well to ‘talk the talk’ but here at Churchill Security we are ‘walking the walk’, with our continual developments to helping the planet and ongoing discussions and policies around a greener culture.

Churchill security continue with their going green commitment

Our commitment to the planet has been ongoing for many years with changes to our paper use policies through to the way we use digital technologies and more, however, there is always more to be done.

Going green is not just a commitment to lowering carbon emissions there are a variety of other ways to improve the health of our planet. Planting trees is one way that Churchill Security intend to help preserve and maintain these ecosystems.

In England, there are more than 1.6 million hectares of designated green belts that need to be maintained and kept as an asset for everyone. As well as designated greenbelts in England, it’s estimated that the area of woodland in the UK covers approximately 3.19 million hectares.  This represents 13% of the total land area in the UK, 10% in England, 15% in Wales, 19% in Scotland and 8% in Northern Ireland.

Not only do we get involved ourselves with our own yearly tree planting commitment, for every new client that comes on board we add more trees to our ever-growing list. The benefits are not just for the planet, getting staff involved in the actual physical planting themselves has a multitude of benefits. From staff bonding through to a better understanding and deeper involvement in reducing the effects we have already had, helps cement the green educational process.

Tree planting is acknowledged as one of the most pleasing, environmentally friendly activities that people participate in to improve the health of our planet. Trees offer a variety of benefits for both the long and short term. As well as being attractive aesthetically, they remove and store carbon from the atmosphere, slow heavy rain and so reduce the risk of flooding, enhance air quality and improve the urban heat island effect by reflecting sunlight and providing shade. In addition, the physical weight of a tree consists of approximately 50% carbon, as such trees have a strong climate change mitigation effect.

There are an almost endless amount of ways businesses and individuals can help provide a greener future for the planet and future generations. Even the smallest things like recycling can have major impacts if everyone gets involved. Considering how your lifestyle and business practices affect the planet is a commitment we all should make.
