Spicers is a leading wholesaler of Office Supplies in the UK. Founded in 1796, as a paper mill and paper supplies business, Spicers product range has expanded exponentially since its early years, now providing resellers with an unrivalled product range available on a next day delivery.

The Challenge

Spicers require a proactive and visible security presence across its estate ensuring the safety and well being of its staff and visitors whilst heavily focusing on Loss Prevention, it’s £10m dealer distribution Centre and corporate offices in Smethwick, West Bromwich is the heart  of the Spicers delivery network and boasts 17,000m2 of racked warehouse space, this is supported by smaller Regional Distribution Centre’s in Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol and Greenwich.

The Solution

Churchill offer a multi-faceted security solution across the Spicers Estate incorporating manned guarding, mobile response, keyholding and CCTV monitoring. The Security team at the Smethwick site act as the hub of the operation taking calls from the other distribution center’s whilst also monitoring their CCTV and alarms.

The Smethwick team liaise directly with the senior Spicer’s Management team on site whom they have forged an excellent working relationship with. They proactively patrol the warehouse space with a particular focus on Loss Prevention and internal theft reduction, are heavily involved with stock checks and audits, vehicle and staff searches, CCTV reviewing and investigations.

The Result

The team are responsible for booking in all vehicles, visitors and contractors, ensuring their correct Permits to Work, Risk Assessments, COSHH Control Documents amongst other paperwork are present and valid and they have the correct PPE before entering into the site where at times they may need escorting to areas to ensure the safety and compliance of all contractors at all times.

The team control all site vehicle movements, parking, and perform regular fire alarm testing supporting providing a wider facilities support function.

The team are also the eyes and ears on the ground with relation to building maintenance issues and health and safety breaches ensuring that both Spicers assets and staff are as safe as possible at all times.
